Elizabeth Reed and Lisa Ellor

Elizabeth Reed has traveled the world, studying other cultures, and bringing them back home to help her help her clients.

Reed is the founding owner of BodySmart in Monroe and has offered her personal one-on-one services for more than 10 years to clients in a home-like setting. She has a master’s degree and is a clinical nutrition specialist. Reed is also certified on Pilates equipment and mat instructor and NASM certified personal trainer. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at the FONES School of Dental Hygiene and the School of Human Nutrition at the University of Bridgeport.

During her travels, it would not be uncommon for her to visit with foreign chefs and health care professionals and then incorporate this new knowledge into her practice.

“We offer an alternative to the large gym environment and pride ourselves in creating the ultimate personalized or group exercise experience,” said Reed. “Our space is your space when you arrive for your session at BodySmart. We do our best to cater to each client’s individual needs. Clients may also combine nutritional counseling with an exercise program. The benefit of combining nutritional counseling with exercise is enormous; resulting in superior muscle tone and strength, lower blood pressure, regulating blood sugar and improved body composition and weight reduction.”

New addition

Lisa Ellor will be joining the BodySmart staff in mid-February. Ellor and Reed have more than 50 years of personal training experience between them.

Ellor will bring to BodySmart her knowledge and certifications in National Academy of Sports Medicine personal training, AFAA group exercise, step aerobics, cardio-kickboxing, Resist-A-Ball, Pole Sculpting, TRX equipment, and she is a licensed Boot Camp Challenge owner.

Ellor has been in the fitness industry since 1985. She said her goal for clients has been to show that it can be fun to get fit.

“I love helping people improve their lifestyle and overall health,” said Ellor. “I am so excited to be working with Ms. Reed, whose training philosophy is the same as mine. We both have so much to offer clients who want something new and exciting. Our combined knowledge and experience are great assets to the practice.”

It is important to teach clients how to train smarter in order to prevent injury and avoid training plateaus, Reed said.

“Our philosophy is to create ‘result driven’ workouts for clients,” she said. “Our group-programs promise to make sure clients still have that semi-private workout. As always, our private studio creates the perfect atmosphere for clients who may feel self conscious at joining a public gym. Our new ‘menu’ of services will allow clients to pick and choose the best program for their individual needs.”

In addition to their private sessions, beginning mid-February BodySmart will be expanding their menu to include many new group services, including 25-Minute Lunchtime Express Class, Poling For Fitness, Twelve-Week Group Weight Loss and Stg. Ellor’s Boot Camp Challenge. All group workouts will be customized to participants’ abilities through personalized modifications. The staff’s combined expertise is an asset to clients who require specific modifications for issues such as scoliosis, osteoporosis, skeletal and muscular limitations.

“We encourage our community’s retired seniors to take advantage of our ‘Platinum Club’ pricing and try one of our group classes to keep strong and active bodies,” said Reed.
