GlassHouseTegu

Tegu Blocks retail for $30. These eight-piece, magnetic wooden blocks designed from the start to be a building system, taking a cue from the architectural school of thought. Blocks come in their own pocket pouch.

The Philip Johnson Glass House Design Store in New Canaan is a source for creative and architectural children’s gifts this gift-giving season.

The budding architect can produce early designs using the Tegu’s magnetic building system and Lego’s Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe. Go modern with children’s furniture, including Little Bert, the replica of the 1951 Bertoia Chair. Parents can inspire and educate their children with the trio of books entitled “13 American Artists Children Should Know,” “13 Modern Artists Children Should Know,” and “13 Buildings Children Should Know.” Both parents and kids are guaranteed to enjoy Steven Guarnaccia’s twist on the old classics with “Goldilocks and the Three Bears: A Tale Moderne” and “The Three Little Pigs: An Architectural Tale.” In the latter tale, the three little pigs are architects Philip Johnson, Frank Gehry and Frank Lloyd Wright who attempt to build a home that can withstand the Big Bad Wolf’s infamous huffing and puffing. Which structure is left standing  — The Glass House, the Gehry House or Fallingwater? You’ll have to read it to find out!

Tweet Tweet Home Birdhouse; ($25)
A little birdie told us that affordable housing isn’t just for people anymore, thus this inexpensive, colorful “haute” house! Local Audubon Society chapters have determined that (at least) 22 different birds can nest with the best inside. Durable enough to be used outdoors, the Tweet Tweet Home includes a loop for hanging and a perch for, well, perching. Also great as an interior accent. Have fun Tweet Tweeting.
